But, their pre-mixed drum kits are just a lot further from the sound I want out of drums than Steven Slate out of the box, for whatever reason, so I've pretty much had to cobble together my own custom kits. On the flip side, Superior Drummer 3's UI is much more user friendly, and it's much more intuitive to tweak drum sounds to match your preferences, and the cymbal samples are much more convincing.

Also, FWIW, I find SSD's cymbal samples to be lacking - they don't sound as lush or full as a professionally recorded drum track should sound, especially not the hi-hats. Either used to bolster drum recordings in need of fattening up, or providing the drum sound in its entirety, Slate’s punchy, beefy-sounding kit samples have played a huge part in the democratisation of big-studio drum sounds. Most of us already turn to it in our daily production work, but this time it helped us make some cool drum sounds using a single mic, when used in combination with Sound Radix.

It's so bad that, at least for me, it kinda canceled out the quality of the drum kits, which are "pre-mixed" to more or less sound like a finished, professionally produced drum track right out of the box. Steven Slate’s drum sounds have been fuelling recorded drum sounds since 2004. Steven Slate Trigger 2 Platinum Allowing you to trigger and customize up to eight stereo samples at once, Trigger 2 Platinum was a useful and creative tool on our trip. IMO, Steven Slate Drums has one of the most maddeningly unusable UIs I have ever experienced in music software. New in 4. I know there are some inconsistencies between kits, and some have fewer toms, etc., so I used Slate Rock 01 as my template and just figure that in some cases it won’t be exactly right. Double-click to unzip the installer and double click again to run the exe. After it has finished downloading, locate the installer 'SSD4Samplerr110Win.zip' within your downloads folder.
STEVEN SLATE DRUMS 4 SWELLS SOFTWARE
If you are looking for another VSTi, i would go for BFD2 before i got SSD as it works much better with edrums, has IMHO the best interface of all of the drum software and has many great expansion packs. Click SSD4 1.1.0 Win Installer in order to begin downloading the installer. You can buy EX and the extra kits usually for less than platinum.

I went ahead and made a piano roll note map for SSD 4 in Reaper. Also in the past 6 months or so, Steven slate EX has been on sale often for as low as 30 dollars. I have Steven Slate Drums 5 and Superior Drummer 3, but primarily use Superior Drummer 3 (Trigger is something completely different - that's for replacing a previously recorded drum track with samples, rather than programming a drum track from scratch). The new STEVEN SLATE DRUMS 4.0 Virtual Instrument is going to be the most massive drum instrument in the industry. A helpful user on the Steven Slate Drums forum has shared a MIDI Note Map file.
